In the spirit of holidays, Macy’s Union Square is hosting their 21st annual Holiday Windows Animal Adoption event. This year’s theme is “The Magic of Christmas. Now through Tuesday, January 1, Macy’s store windows will feature giant snow globes depicting San Francisco landmarks like the Golden Gate Bridge and Twin Peaks. The snow globes house live dogs and cats who are available for adoption through the San Francisco Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA). Read more on the SPCA’s site.

For couples on vacation together, these restaurants in San Francisco are perfect for some romance. Treat yourselves and indulge in that fact that you’re together in a new and exciting city!
At Cafe Jacqueline, a traditional little French spot, enjoy a souffle prepared by Jacqueline herself! The wine list is full of treats you probably don’t have at home, so be adventurous and order something you’ve never tried. It’s also a great spot for sweets, with an extensive list of dessert souffles like strawberry and chocolate.
For some Italian fare, take a stroll over to Acquerello, known for their lighter takes on traditional Italian food. The decor is dramatic, yet warming, and the seafood is a favorite of the locals. A great spot for special occasions, treat yourselves to dinner here during your visit.
If you’re in the mood for some modern American delights, Firefly is a wonderful choice. Located in a two-story house-esque building, it’s relaxed and welcoming. With innovative takes on fried chicken, grits, corn on the cob, and meatballs, you’ll feel right at home here. No pretentious attitudes here, the chefs at Firefly just use their culinary genius to make you (and your date) happy!

Good news for those who fly on JetBlue: the budget airline debuted its new JetBlue system last Tuesday on a flight from New York City to San Francisco. The system includes new free entertainment services that would allow passengers to check their emails on certain models of WiFi-enabled Blackberries. Rumor has it that American Airlines will also be testing fee-based in-flight internet access in the future. Read the complete article here.

If you’re buying gifts this time of year, then don’t make the mistake I made and purchase a fancy set of lotions and gels for friends across the country! Though I remembered not to wrap the the gifts in my carry-on, the TSA security personnel were not as impressed with the festive holiday scents as I was. Ah, well, live and learn…
Condé Nast Traveler recently published their holiday gift guide, which features ideas like patent leather passport covers (perfect for the fashionista with a taste for world travel) and noise-canceling headphones (great for long flights with squirming children). You can even suggest your own gift ideas here.
The Washington Post also has some great gifts ideas for all the travelers on your list, including paper shampoo or soap from Flight 001. These cute little packages include 30 single-use sheets and are approved for carrying on domestic flights, so all you have to do is add water (a much smarter travel gift than holiday scented lotions - I certainly won’t make that mistake twice!).
