Explore the natural world within the halls of the California Academy of Sciences. Immerse yourself in the world’s oceans and fresh water environments displayed at Steinhart Aquarium. From African Penguins and Coral Reefs to Ancients and Invertebrates to Reptiles, Angelfish and Seahorses the aquarium has it all.

Not only can you see (and touch some too!) these amazing animals, you can interact and learn from aquatic biologists about their study and care for the animals. View poison dart frogs, box turtles, sea horses, and clown fish in jewel tanks. Get an up-close look at giant sea bass, alligators, snapping turtles, gars, and moray eels. Touch hermit crabs, and aneomes at the tide pool. Observe lively South African penguins as they preen on land and swim underwater. Don’t miss the penguin feedings that happen every day at 11:00 am and 3:30 pm.

As of January 2008, California Academy of Sciences - Steinhart Aquarium will close to relocate and will reopen in 2009 in Golden Gate Park.
