The Eighth HORNET (CV-12) carries a distinguished name in US Naval History. Her namesake dates back to one of the two first ships in the continental Navy. With her creed, “A Heritage of Excellence,” the USS HORNET bears an impressive list of achievements, including nine battle stars earned for her WWII service, survived 59 attacks without ever being hit, supported nearly every Pacific amphibious landing after March 1944, and the flawless recovery of Apollo 11 and Apollo 12 astronauts. The exhibits onboard include a TBM Avenger and an F14 Tomcat as well as the West Coast’s best display of Apollo artifacts. Your tour includes a short film introduction followed by visits to more than four of the ship’s decks.

Directions: Take the Alameda/Oakland Blue and Gold Fleet ferry, departing from Fisherman’s Wharf, to Alameda Ferry terminal. Connect to AC Transit bus #63, which takes you less than a 15 minute walk from HORNET’s Pier.
Take BART to Oakland’s 12th Street station (weekdays) and Fruitvale station (weekends) and then transfer to AC Transit bus #63.
Taxis are also available from Alameda Ferry Terminal or Bart stations. (approx. $10.00). Driving directions can be found online.
Note: Due to regular maintenance, the engine room and the island structure are not available for viewing on Tuesdays.
Unless otherwise noted, the Go San Francisco Card is valid for admissions from 9:00 am to 5:30 pm
