The California Academy of Sciences, recently named one of the ‘New Wonders of the World’ by Conde Nast Traveler, is an absolute must-see destination in San Francisco. Explore the world’s largest all-digital planetarium, a natural history museum, an aquarium, and a four story rainforest. The California Academy of Sciences allows you to experience the entire universe under one (living!) roof.
Rocket through the galaxy at the speed of light and journey deep into the oceans of the world as the California Academy of Sciences boldly brings ‘life to life’. Come face to face with snakes and piranhas, meet Claude the Albino Alligator and hang out with Pierre, Howard, Ocio and the rest of the South African Penguin colony.
The entire Academy is driven by two burning questions: How did life on earth develop and how will we sustain it? The 412,000 square foot structure is not only visually impressive, but may also be the greenest museum on the planet. Some of the many “green” features include a 2 ½ acre Living Roof, a large solar canopy, a water reclamation system, and walls that are insulated with recycled blue jeans!
Interactions with animals, educators, and biologists within immersive, hands-on exhibits offer discovery and wonder for guests of all ages. Check out the penguin feeding, swamp talk, coral reef & lagoon sessions (times and days vary).
Present your pass at the ticket office window. Your general admission ticket to the Academy includes access to all exhibits and shows. Check the daily schedule upon entry for events, times, and locations. The Planetarium Show and any special exhibits are capacity controlled and subject to availability on the day of your visit.
The recently opened California Academy of Sciences in Golden Gate Park has quickly become a premiere attraction for visitors to San Francisco. In addition to its tourist appeal, the Academy is also globally renowned for its cutting edge eco-friendly construction and impressive operations. There are nearly 40,000 live animals housed within the 400,000 square foot structure!
Be sure not to miss one of the best things to do in the Bay Area and see for yourself why the California Academy of Sciences has quickly become the number one ticketed attraction in San Francisco.
